Traveling while sick is NOT fun. How are you supposed to enjoy the ocean breeze with a sore throat? Or the red velvet cheesecake with a constant runny nose? I’ve been through it all before and it sucks. If you have time and health insurance, the obvious suggestion would be to see a doctor. That’s not always the case, so I’ve listed a few remedies for you to try below. Hopefully they come in handy next time you’re feeling under the weather!
This remedy is my least favorite, due to the unpleasant taste. But it helps! Gargling a half a teaspoon of salt with warm water can help reduce the swelling of a sore throat. It could also help loosen the thick mucus you get from having a cold. If the taste is too unbearable, you could mix in a small amount of honey to the saltwater. Try this one a few times a day, especially first thing in the morning.
Can you hear me now? Good! You can put coconut oil to good use for just about anything. If you find yourself with clogged, sore ears, try putting a few drops of coconut oil in each ear twice daily. Also, once you’ve finished gargling your salt water, use the coconut oil to perform an oil pull from your mouth. Swish one tablespoon in your mouth for 20 minutes, and then spit out. This tip will help remove all the bad bacteria, putting you back on track to being healthy!
There are a lot of great over-the-counter cold medicines out there, and Zicam is for sure one of my top 3 choices. There are several products you can choose from. I recommend taking Zicam PRE-COLD as soon as you notice any sort of symptom. Don’t pretend you don’t feel that tickling feeling in the back of your throat three days before your big trip. Do something about it! Whatever your symptoms may be, PRE-COLD offers rapid melts, chocolate chews, nasal spray, oral mist, etc. Take your choice as directed to shorten your cold.
Being sick can be emotionally distressing, but drinking green tea can help improve your mood and general well being. Plus, don’t forget about the several other health benefits gained from drinking this wholesome beverage. It’s an anti-inflammatory that’s filled with antioxidants! Might I add that this is probably the easiest remedy to try while traveling, being that there’s pretty much a Starbucks on every other corner.
Life is too short. Don’t let nature’s natural burdens put a stop to your adventures. Get up, do some remedies, and make some memories!
