Have you ever heard the saying, “If its for free, its for me?”
It’s one of the many quotes I live by. Not to make myself sound cheap, but why do we always have to spend money in order to entertain ourselves? There’s a whole world out there, waiting to be explored! My sister and I have been monitoring our spending lately, and trying to find fun things to do without pulling out our wallets. If you have a free day, I suggest taking a hike! Get some fresh air. It only takes a few minutes to hop on Google and locate some great hiking areas near you. We chose Mount Charleston, which is about an hour away from our home. Simply filled up two containers of water, and we were on our way!
My favorite part about Mount Charleston is that even though it’s in Nevada, the temperature decreases drastically…at least by 20 degrees. It’s always very refreshing taking a break from the 110 degree whether for a day. If you plan on visiting any location meant for hiking, I would research the different trails first. Some places like to list their pathways based on how difficult the journey can be. We chose one based off of the end result. Don’t get me wrong… any secluded area you stumble upon in nature is bound to be breathtaking. We wanted to see some waterfalls, though, so we chose Mary Jane Falls Trail. I’m not sure if you would consider this trail easy or difficult to climb, but let’s just say my legs are currently throbbing while typing the night after. On our way up, I passed a friend of mine who’s hiked the trail before. Her advice was, “this one’s a bitch, but it’s definitely worth is.” She was right.
If you love working out and being athletic, this is also a great break from the typical gym routine! According to Livestrong, the average 160-lb person burns between 430-440 calories per hour of hiking. We were on the trails for three hours, so I’m feeling pretty good about my venture thus far! Plus, we captured a ton of amazing pictures! Every time I looked up to catch my breath I thought, “Wow, this is so surreal!” Money can’t always buy you moments like that.
Any who, I’m not here to bore you with my heart warming hiking stories. Just keep in mind the simple things in life next time you attempt to buy yourself happiness! Chao! 🙂
